Shaking Incubator Applications
Incubate. Aerate. All Without Disturbing Anything Else Around
Some Shaking Incubator (Environmental Shaker) applications include cell culturing, cell aeration, and solubility studies. In addition to stable temperature conditions, environmental shakers use an orbital agitation at variable speeds to affect the growth of cell cultures. Agitation speed and orbit affect both the aeration and the mixing of the culture. As a basic rule the greater the aeration the greater the Oxygen Transfer Rate which in turn increases cell growth rates. The "stroke length" of the platform is equal to the diameter of the orbit the platform travels in. Moving from an orbit of 3/4" – 1" increases the Oxygen Transfer Rate in a linear fashion. So generally speaking doubling the stroke length would double the OTR.
This is why the SHEL LAB SI6 & SI6R Shaking Incubators have adjustable stroke lengths to accommodate various cells and applications. This gives you the flexibility to adjust the speed and orbit to meet your application. There are three models of Shaking Incubators available from Sheldon Manufacturing.
