A check valve is a spring loaded device designed to let pressurized gas flow in one direction but not allow back flow. The amount of pressure needed to open the valve is set by the manufacturer. The spring holds the valve closed until the pressure on the inlet side of the valve overpowers the spring allowing the gas to flow through, once the pressure drops below the set amount the spring once again seals the line. Pressure coming backwards through the line cannot open the valve.
The Bactron Anaerobic chambers (all models) have two 3 PSI check valves in them. One is in the main vacuum line just after the vacuum in bulkhead fitting. The second is in the chamber gas line just before it enters the chamber.
