Sheldon Manufacturing
:: Refrigerated Incubators
:: Drosophila-Fruit Fly
Standard low temperature incubators are intended for Biological Oxygen Demand (B.O.D.) applications. B.O.D. incubators are designed for wastewater treatment, not Drosophila incubation and growth. B.O.D. applications are not adversely affected by temperature fluctuations associated with defrost cycling to prevent freezing coils. Fruit Flies cannot tolerate such dramatic temperature change. Additionally, Fruit Fly normal metabolic processes produce a gas that contaiminates the frost on the refrigerated incubator coils. When the coils are defrosted, a corrosive substance forms, leading to premature coil deterioration.
